The Muzeu Chega! in Timor-Leste stands as a powerful reminder of the nation’s resilience and commitment to human rights. With the support of key stakeholders—including CAVR (Commission for Reception, Truth, and Reconciliation) and CNC (Centro Nacional Chega!) as facilitators, and SINTAS as historical consultants—our studio was entrusted with redesigning the museum’s visual identity, multimedia experience, and overall visitor journey. The goal was to create a modern, engaging, and immersive storytelling approach while honoring the museum’s historical significance.

Concept: Honoring History, Engaging the Future

The redesign focused on preserving the legacy of truth, justice, and remembrance while enhancing accessibility and engagement. Inspired by these themes, we crafted a space that invites reflection and dialogue, ensuring that stories of struggle and resilience are conveyed with depth and sensitivity.

Visual Design: A Contemporary Yet Respectful Aesthetic

We developed a cohesive design system incorporating clean typography, powerful imagery, and structured layouts that guide visitors through key narratives. The color palette and graphic elements were carefully chosen to balance solemnity with hope, reinforcing the museum’s mission.

Multimedia Development: Bringing Stories to Life

With CNC and SINTAS providing historical guidance, we integrated interactive screens, digital archives, and audiovisual installations to enrich the visitor experience. Video testimonies, animated timelines, and immersive projections create a multi-sensory journey, allowing visitors to connect deeply with the museum’s content.

Through this collaborative effort, the redesigned Muzeu Chega! now stands as a dynamic space where history is preserved, stories are amplified, and human rights education continues to inspire future generations.
